Gary Tyler, the director and self-proclaimed spiritual man, not religious person, has been the head of Angola’s Drama Club. Gary knows the world of incarceration very well. When he entered Angola in 1974 at age 16, he was the youngest person in America sentenced to death row.

Bobby Wallace, was once a feared gang leader. 20 years later he chooses to be a strong and positive leader amongst the inmates. He is chosen for the role of Jesus Christ.

Justin Singleton, is the Disciple Peter. Still in his 30’s, he is serving a life sentence without parole for accessory to murder. Justin was once a ‘follower’ who was taken down the wrong path. Playing Peter is his chance at redemption.

Serey Kong, plays the Virgin Mary. She was born a Buddhist of Cambodian descent but is now a born again Christian.  Her 15-year sentence for armed robbery ends May 30, 2013, and when she is released it is her goal to spread the love of Christ to those that do not know Him in her home country.

Sandra Starr

Sandra Starr, plays the role of Mary Magdalene who Jesus saves from a stoning (and whose scene inspires the title of our film). Sandra is serving a life sentence for second-degree murder.

Patricia Williams

Patricia Williams

Patricia Williams, plays the role of Mother Mary. As a mother of a son serving time in Iraq she imagines her son coming back in a body bag and as with Jesus, she feels the pain, but she ‘can not die for him’. Patricia is serving 16 years for embezzlement.

Earl Davis

Earl Davis was born in Trinidad, a preacher’s son. The role of John the Baptist is his way of atoning for the 2nd degree charge for murder that now condemns him to a life behind bars.

Cherié Perez

Cherié Perez

Cherié Perez is serving 20 years for armed robbery. Incarcerated since 2005, Cherie, now a poet and writer, found herself and her purpose in playing the role of the She Devil.
